Unsure which cable you need to connect your Beolab speakers?
Bang&Olufsen uses various connectors, making choosing the right cable sometimes difficult.
On this page, we help you make the right choice step by step, so your Beolab speakers work immediately without problems.
Step 1:
Which connector do you use?
There are 3 connector types:
Powerlink: the round DIN connector.
Powerlink with RJ45 connector.
tulip or RCA.
The most frequently used is the round DIN8 connector from B&O itself.
Powerlink DIN8
Best integration and recommended by us.
Includes on/off signal (trigger), ground, and data; simply the best connector for B&O systems. can be found on speakers such as: lab2/3/4/5/9/2500/3000/4000/4002/4500/5000/6000/6002/8000/8002.
Current (newer) speakers are equipped with RJ45 as a powerlink connection.
Speakers such as: Lab 8/17/18/19/20/50/90.
These speakers can be connected using Cat7 cables or DIN to RJ45 cables.
Connect via the Line (RCA or DIN)
Most frequently used:
RCA/Tulip works the simplest and is suitable for Beolab 1/5/3000/4000/4500/5000/6000/8000/Penta.
Simple solution, often plug and play and affordable. Disadvantage: during 'silence', the loudspeaker can switch off and on again; you often hear the relay 'clicking'
is perceived as 'disturbing'.
Newer loudspeakers such as: 3/9/11/4002/6002/8002 do not have RCA connectors but are integrated into a DIN7 connection (line cable)
RCA -> DIN7 connections (LINE)
Step 2: Choose based on your speakers
Take your RCA that fits: Beolab1/5/3000/4000/4500/5000/6000/8000/penta
If you want to connect the Beolab 2/7 series/10/11, this can only be done with a trigger signal
Modern models (newer systems including 3/9/11/4002/6002/8002) with RJ45-Line
Beolab 28, 50, 90 → special connection required
Important to know
Not every Beolab works directly with a standard cable
Some speakers require a trigger signal
Without this they remain off or make no sound
Always use a cable that is suitable for your model
Common mistakes
Wrong cable → no sound
No trigger → speakers do not work
Bad cable → hum or interference
Check the correct cables for your situation:
Powerlink cables
RCA connection cables
RJ45 / DIN adapters
Trigger cables
Especially for B&O
Tested without interference
